Archives, libraries, museums, research centers, and institutes provide further sources of learning. Institutions, such as the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, offer work programs for college students, and educational lectures and workshops, open to the public.

    Centers of research in the sciences are found at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science in Cambridge, or the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater.

    [photo, Mount Royal Station, Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, Maryland] Annual book fairs and festivals provide access to literary resources and authors. Commonly sponsored by local associations and corporations, these festivals benefit educational institutions, and the community. One of the most notable is the Baltimore Book Festival, first held each September at Mount Vernon Place, then at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. In November 2019, the Baltimore Book Festival was held with Light City at the Inner Harbor as part of Brilliant Baltimore. The next Baltimore Book Festival will be held on September 27-29, 2024, in the Waverly neighborhood.
